       HUD/VASH is a nationwide program that assists homeless or at risk Veterans to obtain and maintain housing. The Manchester VAMC VASH program is going into its 8th year of operation. We have assisted over 450 Veterans throughout Southern and Central New Hampshire to obtain housing. It is designed to give our Veterans a leg up. The rental subsidy from the housing authority enables Veterans who have found themselves with insufficient income to establish a home so that they may build their lives.

      The VA provides case management to assist Veterans achieve their goals, be it to access education, vocation, increasing their income, budgeting and to access medical, mental health or substance abuse treatment. The program serves returning Vets, disabled vets, and Vets that have found themselves in difficult financial times due to needing to shift careers or lack of employment opportunities. Depending on voucher availability, VASH typically accepts 3-4 Veterans per month.

      Many of these veteran have lost everything in their bout of homelessness and are starting from scratch in terms of household belongings. VASH strives to assist with the acquisition of furniture and other household items. Current, VASH has over 100 children in the program and supports around 250 households.
